Awesome Fresh Seafood Meals

March 30th, 2008 · No Comments

Meals are always awesome on Ketchikan Alaska fishing cruises with Classic Alaska Charters.  We hire only the most talented chefs and culinary school graduates, and the results are always fabulous cuising made from fresh seafood caught daily.  Even our most discerning clients agree that our meals are 5 star!  Menus vary daily according to what’s in season and what has been caught that day, so there’s never a “fixed” menu, but you can get a pretty good idea of what to expect by looking at a past “feast” put together by our chef:

Breakfast, Ham Asparagus Quiche, Fresh Fruit and Apple Bread
Mid-Morning Snack: Halibut Cheese Ball
Lunch: Upriver Salmon Pita Sandwiches, Carrot Bacon Bisque, and Boysenberry French Sodas
Appetizer: Pepper-Jack Stuffed Squat Lobster Tails
Dinner: Baby Spinach with Strawberries, Prawns and Feta in a Pink Poppyseed Dressing, Shrimp Alfredo Pasta, Rosemary Roasted Garlic Red Potatoes & Graffiti Cauliflower
Dessert: Warm Walnut Brownies a la mode and Piroulines

The food is always memorable on a Classic Alaska Charter cruise, and part of the reason we get so many repeat clients (the other part of the reason being the awesome fishing and unmatched Alaska wilderness explorations!).

Yelloweye and Ling Cod Fishing in Alaska

March 15th, 2008 · No Comments

Classic Alaska Charters provides some of the best saltwater and freshwater and Ketchikan Alaska fishing.  Big Yelloweye, Ling Cod and Halibut, shrimp (when they are in season), and all you can eat crablegs!  This is the kind of fishing that you can only dream about on most fishing trips, but with CAC we make it a reality.

The photography and sightseeing are spectacular in the Alaskan Wilderness out where we go.  At certain times of the year, the Northern Lights put on an awesome light show.  Shooting stars seem to be more prevalent as well, or perhaps that’s because out in the wilds of Alaska away from city lights, they are much more visible.  Whale watching, up close and personal, is always spectacular, and you’re sure to spot black bear, wolves, other wildlife along the shores of some of the smaller inlets.  Hiking, kayaking, and beachcombing are among the other many activities available to guests aboard the Saltery C, CAC’s 40 foot charter boat.  There’s so much to do besides fishing that there’s sure to be something for the entire family!

KetchiKan Alaska Fishing, CAC style!

March 13th, 2008 · No Comments

Classic Alaska Charters offers a lot of “firsts” in wilderness exploration for those who have never tried overnight trips aboard a fishing charter. Even if you’ve stayed in a lodge in Alaska, the experience is just not the same. For true Ketchikan Alaska Fishing, CAC usually travels out into the less traveled parts of the Misty Fiords, where you can see all sorts of things you may not at a lodge. For example, you might see a bottom fishing Humpback Whale leaping out of the water out by Dall Head; or you might see a whale feeding on herring out by Duke Island. For first timers, whale sighting is a enormous thrill, particularly when done CAC-style: up close and personal!

Imagine limiting out on Yelloweye and Ling Cod or catching a full dozen of Black Rockfish and Quillbacks out on Cape Chacon “ that’s the experience of a lifetime, no matter what your prior fishing experiences you may have had. Along the way you might also catch some silvers, coho, halibut, set some pots for craglegs (all you can eat!) and even some shrimp too. Now that’s what true Ketchikan Alaska Fishing is all about!

28th Annual Telly Awards Winners Annouced!
Outstanding commercials, videos, films and internet work honored from record breaking pool of entries

New York City, NY — (June 25, 2007) The Winners of the 28th Annual Telly Awards have been announced. With a record 14,362 entries from all 50 states and around the world, this year’s competition has been the most competitive and successful in the long history of the Telly Awards.

Founded in 1979, the Telly Awards is the premier award honoring outstanding local, regional, and cable TV commercials and programs, the finest film and video productions, and groundbreaking web commercials, videos and films. Winners represent the best work of the most respected advertising agencies, production companies, television stations, cable operators, and corporate video departments in the world.

This year’s Winners include companies, agencies and organizations of all sizes, from large multinational media companies to small ad agencies and local production houses.

(Captains Note: Strehle Media Group, Inc. president Keven Strehle and assistant camerman Jason produced a NW BackRoads segment from an Alaska Adventure with Classic Alaska Charters in Sept 2006, (see blog about NW Backroads Show Sept 06), that aired several times on King 5 TV starting Feb of 2007. The subsequent feature presentation DVD produced was submitted by Keven for Telly Awards in 3 categories, Direct Marketing, Photography, Nature & Wildlife. We won in ALL 3 categories to take home 3 Bronze National Telly Awards!!!)

A prestigious judging panel of over 40 accomplished industry professionals, each a past Winner of a Silver Telly, the top honor, judged the competition, upholding the historical standard of excellence that Telly represents. Judges evaluated entries to recognize distinction in creative work – entries do not compete against each other – rather entries are judged against a high standard of merit. Less than 10% of entries are chosen as Winners of a Silver Telly, our highest honor. Other outstanding work is awarded a Bronze Telly.

Chairman of the judging panel, Richard Friley, the Emmy and Telly Award winning President of Friley Productions noted, “In my second year as judging chairman, I am again incredibly impressed with the remarkable level of achievement evident in the diverse pool of entries. It is a true accomplishment for all of the Winners to be recognized from such an outstanding body of work. ”

Ketchikan Alaska Fishing DVD

March 10th, 2008 · No Comments

Sept, 2006, Classic Alaska Charters hosted Keven Strehle and his production/traveling fishing/exploring crew on a 5 day, 4 night overnight Alaskan adventure to document all the action as it would typically unfold on a trip with guests. With 2 High Def digital video camera’s (one for underwater shots!) Keven and Jason went to work filming right away…….and could hardly put the cameras down with so much going on! From the huge shrimp hauls, to fast Halibut action (above and below the water!) to big Brown Bears feeding on salmon in the river just yards away, and with freshwater fly and spin fishing for big n bright Coho Salmon in spectacular wilderness settings.  A lot of time and effort (and fun!) went into this production and I truly believe it will be an outdoor video experience you all will certainly enjoy……and will be talking about for a long time.

Here’s what the host, cameraman, and Emmy Award winning producer Keven Strehle had to say about his trip with Captain Rob of Classic Alaska Charters

“Wow! Is all I can say about our latest adventure. I just returned from a trip with Classic Alaska Charters based out of Ketchikan, AK. Captain Rob Scherer showed us what “wilderness” means in Alaskan.

We arrived in Ketchikan on a cool, rainy day after a short flight from Seattle and immediately began prepping for a journey unequalled in my 20 years in this business. After topping off the tanks, we boarded Capt. Rob’s gorgeous 40-foot Bayliner and headed out. The weather was crappy and was supposed to bad at the end of the week. Rob said we may have to come in a day earlier than anticipated which immediately put the pressure on us to get the goods early. As we reached our cruising speed, Rob pointed out that the spots we were going are “trade secret locations” and further explained he will be vague about where we are going because he wants to protect his livelihood. Something all of us aboard the ship understood. It also made us think to ourselves, “wow, this is going to be fun. The goal of every fisherman is the secret honey hole!”

I can tell you one thing, we were not disappointed. During the 5-day trip we really got one heck of a introduction to the Alaskan Wilderness. Kayaking within 20 yards of feeding Brown Bears, private fishing on some of the most remote waters I have ever been to and great action both large and small. While not shooting I caught a 100 pound Halibut. Butch caught two nice ones in about an hour. The group caught every species of fish imaginable; Coho, Kings, Pinks, Yellow Eye, Lings and of course the giant Halibut.

This trip was a one that provided memories that will last for a lifetime! Wanna know the best part of it? We captured it all on video. From every angle we had it covered. I can’t wait to start editing.”

— Keven Strehle, Strehle Media Productions

Alaska Fishing in the Ketchikan Area

March 8th, 2008 · No Comments

Are you a fishing enthusiast?  If so, then Ketchikan Alaska Fishing is probably right up your alley.  Based out of Ketchikan AK, Classic Alaska Charters is one of the top rated fishing charters in the business.  At CAC, we do things just a bit differently than just about everybody… Instead of fishing all the popular hot spots, where the likelihood of running into other fishing charters is very high,” we love to go to the out of the way places where the fishing is hot but the competition is not!  In other words, we will get you to the real “Wild Alaska” where you can experience the wilderness and fishing like you’ve never experienced it before — unless of course, you’re a repeat customer, and we get a lot of those!  Freshwater fishing, fly fishing, light tackle saltwater fishing, shrimping, crabbing — just name the species and CAC can find and catch it (season permitting, of course — see the Alaska Fishing Timing chart on our website).  For the best in Ketchikan Alaska fishing, we are the fishing cruise outfit with the knowledge and first-hand experience to take you on the adventure of a lifetime!
